The Queen's Jubilee is more than five months away, but this has not stopped the Llandudno Town Council from announcing new schemes to celebrate the occasion. Located on the shores of the Irish Sea in Wales, Llandudno is a popular seaside resort, which sees droves of tourists visiting every summer. Most of the residents of the town are involved in tourism-related professions, such as running travel agencies, bed and breakfast boutiques and hotels in Llandudno. Hence, they are always looking for ways to improve the tourism potential of the town.
In January 2012, The Llandudno Town Council announced that they will be offering small grants for organising street parties, to allow town residents and tourists to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. According to reports in local newspapers, the council has decided to allocate £2,000 worth of funding, which would be equally divided amongst the town wards. These funds would be used to fund street parties to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation, over the official Jubilee weekend from 2nd to 5th June 2012.
According to Mayor Greg Robbins, the mayor of Llandudno, it is hoped that the grant would encourage residents and tourists living at hotels in Llandudno to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, in much the same way they celebrated the Royal wedding, held last year. Cllr Robbins, a council member, said that the town had run a similar scheme during the Royal wedding, which received a good uptake. Council members who attended a few of those town parties, were impressed with the arrangements, and have agreed to arrange the same for the Queen's jubilee, as well.
Llandudno's residents are expecting a huge number of tourists to check-in to the town's hotels and bed and breakfast boutiques, during the Jubilee weekend. They are pulling out all stops to ensure that these visitors have a good time here, so that they continue to visit in the future. In fact, the owners of many shops and hotels in Llandudno have come out with plans to re-vamp their premises with a Royal theme, to get the town in a celebratory mood.
